Egypt paid $681m to Paris Club creditors, says Central Bank Egypt's total external debt stood at $46.06 billion in June 2014; debt repayments are scheduled biannually
Egypt paid $681 million to Paris Club creditors on 5 January, Central Bank of Egypt governor Hisham Ramez told Reuters. Egypt owed about $13.3 billion — 29 percent of its total external debt — to Paris Club countries by the close of 2013, according to Central Bank data. Total external debt stood at $46.06 billion in June 2014, up from $34.9 billion in June 2011. The Central Bank of Egypt will issue $950 million in dollar-denominated treasury bills Monday. Reserves inched down to $15.33 billion at the end of December from $15.88 billion a month earlier. International reserves fell sharply from about $36 billion following the 2011 uprising that ousted former president Hosni Mubarak. North Africa's largest economy repays its Paris Club creditors every six months. In July 2014, it repaid $700 million. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/120016.aspx
