Egyptian tour guides expressed their frustration over the death of a Canadian tourist who was injured during clashes between two families in a village in Sohag. They described the matter as a disaster which will strongly harm Egypt's tourism. The tour guides blame the country's unstable state of security threatening the transitional phase, expecting Canada to advise its citizens against visiting Egypt after the incident. Head of the Tour Guides Syndicate in Aswan Abdel Nasser Saber accused Egypt's ministries of interior and tourism of ignoring the tourism sector and tourists, a matter that has strongly harmed Egypt's tourism since the beginning of the January 25 Revolution. He criticized the security forces' lack of action in getting tourists away from the clashes. He also demanded the Ministry of Tourism interfere immediately by issuing a statement about the incident and contacting the Canadian embassy to ease the negative repercussions of the incident on the tourism sector. Saber said the incident would increase tourists' fears of visiting Luxor and Aswan which are considered the main winter destinations. He expected the incident to destroy tourism during the current season. Amr Khalaf, Egyptian tour guide, described the incident as a disaster that would hit the tourism sector, which was already suffering badly, extremely hard. He demanded Egypt's Interior Ministry interfere to restore security and stability that has been scarce since the revolution. Tour guide Tarik Zaitony said the incident will prompt the Canadian authorities to advise against visiting Egypt. He added other countries will take the same step, gravely threatening the country's tourism.
