Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy has met with with Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković in Belgrade on the sidelines of his official visit to the Serbian capital, focusing on strengthening cooperation in heritage preservation and cultural exchange. The two ministers discussed training and capacity building for antiquities professionals, including joint archaeological excavations, restoration projects, museum development, scientific events, and workshops. Fathy highlighted Egypt's current tourism strategy, launched under the slogan "Unmatched Diversity", which aims to promote the country's wide-ranging tourism assets and position Egypt as a leading global destination for cultural and heritage tourism. He also highlighted the upcoming grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on 3 July, expressing interest in hosting an international Egyptology conference at the venue and extending an invitation to Serbian and global archaeologists to participate. For his part, Selaković expressed interest in hosting an exhibition of Egyptian antiquities at the National Museum of Serbia as part of Expo 2027, which Belgrade is set to host and expects to attract around three million visitors.
