CAIRO: The judicial committee that supervises the Egyptian Bar Association today decided to suspend its work until security is restored in the Association. The committee said that it needs to protect members of the committee in order to execute its mandate of supervision until the November 20 elections. “The committee made its decision in a meeting today,” said Judge Ahmed Basiony, a member of the committee. “A number of lawyers attempted to clash with the members of the committee, which prompted the decision.” “The committee has not yet called the military or security forces in to protect the committee,” he continued. “The lawyers are our partners and we refuse to allow the police to interfere to resolve problems.” He also demanded that the different candidates running for membership in the Bar Association work to bridge the gap between the lawyers. He also stressed that there is no intention to delay the elections.
