Egypt's ministry of health and population said on Monday it has screened 1.53 million primary school students nationwide as part of the presidential initiative for the early detection of anaemia, obesity, and stunting. The screenings, conducted since the start of the 2025–2026 academic year on 5 October, cover both Egyptian and non-Egyptian students enrolled in 29,000 public and private schools, the ministry added in a statement. Under the initiative, students undergo medical examinations including weight, height, and haemoglobin level measurements to detect nutritional disorders and identify cases requiring follow-up. The programme is implemented in coordination with the ministry of education and technical education. Students diagnosed with any of the targeted conditions are referred to health insurance clinics for further tests and free treatment. Each case receives a follow-up card containing personal data to ensure continuous monitoring at clinics across all governorates. According to the ministry, around 2,000 trained medical teams are participating in the initiative, which follows specific screening and infection-control protocols. Citizens can contact hotlines 106 and 105 for inquiries related to the initiative. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
