Tunisian authorities today released 22 Egyptian fishermen who originally were arrested in Tunis two months ago for entering Tunisian regional waters without permission. The fisherman arrived at Cairo International Airport today on board an Egyptian plane that originated in Tunis. The Egyptian and Tunisian Ministries of Foreign Affairs held intensive negotiations prior to the release of the fishermen. The Tunisian authorities decided to release the 22 fishermen, but continue to detain six sailors and other crewmembers so that they could complete their investigation. The arriving fishermen were stopped in Cairo. Twenty of them were released and two were held due to outstanding warrants.
