CAIRO: The Tunisian government reported that it had begun questioning 14 Egyptian fishermen it had arrested two weeks ago for illegally entering Tunisian waters. “The Tunisian authorities have started questioning the 14 fishermen arrested on board the Youssef Killani boat on August 18,” said Ahmed Nassar, the head of the Fishing Welfare Association of Borg Megheizel. Nassar, who said the captain of the vessel had phoned him, added that the fishermen have been charged with violating Tunisian fishing laws and attempting to sink a naval ship that was chasing their boat. The captain, now held in the Tunisia's Port Sfaxian, has called on the Egyptian Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the foreign ministry to secure their release and that of their boat, claiming that they did not enter Tunisia's territorial waters. The Egyptian government has not issued a statement over the matter. BM
