CAIRO: The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) has asked Egypt's ruling military council and the minister of justice to form an independent judiciary committee to investigate Sunday's deadly Maspiro clashes. EOHR also asked the military council to reconsider the decision to refer those implicated in the Maspiro incidents to the military prosecution. EOHR issued a statement saying that it is not necessary to send the whole investigations' file to the military prosecution. It said sending a copy should be sufficient under the military prosecution jurisdiction. The copy should include the assault on the military police soldiers and the burning of vehicles belonging to the army, said the statement, whereas the civil judiciary should investigate the assaults on civilian protesters. The head of EOHR, Hafez Abou Seada, said that the only link between the incidents within the civil and military judiciaries' jurisdictions is Maspiro. The rest of the details are completely different, said Abou Seada. It should be noted that the head of the military judiciary, General Adel Mahmoud, announced yesterday that the military judiciary will launch an investigation regarding the latest Maspiro incidents.
