A source said the reason some insurance companies are reluctance to insure the lives of individuals working at Egyptian Ministry of Interior and police officers along with their families due to the fact they are constantly targeted since the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. Ace Insurance Company is based in the U.S. and decided not to make contract with the Egyptian police. The source added the decision not to insure the lives of individuals in the Egyptian Ministry of Interior or the renewal of insurance policies is not up for discussion. This confirms insurance companies work against the principles of insurance. Managing Director of Takaful Egypt insurance company Ahmed Ramadan did not discuss such decisions and pointed out each insurance company, whether Egyptian or foreign, has a policy of its own. Ramadan told Youm7 there is no consensus of the insurers' decision to refuse insurance on the lives of individuals in the Ministry of Interior and their families. He added Takaful Egypt insures the lives of police officers and their families. He explained the law cannot force companies to insure anyone and some insurance companies refuse to insure those with a margin of high risk. The President of the Division of Insurance and Risk Management at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Samy Naguib, said insurance companies make these sorts of decisions in fear of loss since there are frequent attacks on police stations. Naguib said even though of a number of insurance companies accept insuring individuals working in the Ministry of Interior, those companies will increase insurance by 50 percent because the premiums are always based on a degree of risk.
