MOGADISHU, Somalia: An Egyptian plane laden with humanitarian aid arrived in Somalia's Mogadishu airport at noon today. The plane carried nine tons of aid supplies including infant formula, medicine and food. It is the first major shipment of Egyptian aid to arrive in the famine-stricken horn of Africa. The Somali minister of trade received the Egyptian aid personally. Another Egyptian military plane is scheduled to arrive in Somalia tomorrow. It carries medical equipments, medicines, infant formula, and food. The Egyptian Armed Forces' Arab Doctors Union, the Medical Association of Egypt and Misr Khair association sponsored the second plane. An official and a popular delegation from Egypt also arrived in Mogadishu this morning. Mona Omar, assistant minister of interior for African affairs, accompanied the delegation. The Somali Prime Minister received the delegation.
