DAKAHLIA, Egypt: Egyptian residents in the Snafa village in Dakahlia governorate launched a campaign to raise donations for Somalis who are suffering from starvation. Imams in the village organized the campaign for starving Somalis. The Imams quoted the Hadith saying, “They were in Prophet Mohammad's home and saw barefoot people with torn clothing; Prophet Mohammed was sorrowful for not helping the Muslims; the Prophet encouraged people to be charitable.” “Some people go on pilgrimages more than once; why don't they give the money for multiple pilgrimages to starving people?” asked Imam Nashaat Zarei. Going on a pilgrimage is obligatory for Muslims once in a lifetime in the Islamic tradition, but multiple journeys are not required – an historic effort to encourage devout believers to devote resources to needy people.
