The Saad Zaglol Cultural Center in the Beit el-Omma Museum will host the Ramadan Cultural Night Ceremonies in Markaz Park, scheduled to last until August 24. Ramadan is the Islamic holy month during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Ceremonies include intellectual seminars about common traditions in both Islam and Christianity, a Kataef Festival for the performing arts and chanting bands. The ceremonies will start on Sunday with a Sufi ritual, the Tannuora performance. The Kataef Festival begins on Monday and includes talented artificial designers, scheduled to appear through Artificial Cultural Ramadan Nights. Several famous people will participate in the seminars, and several small shows will occur for Sohour, the last meal before dawn. Also scheduled to appear: singer Abdel Rahman Gabry, poet Essam Nabil, stand-up comic Mohamed Mahmoud Fargaly and a performance of “Hekayet Medan,” the “Tale of the Square,” to be performed by Egyptian actors. A Mesaharaty band will present a Folan Folany performance, including the poems of Salah Shaheen, Foad Hadad, Islam Abdel Moneim and Faod Negm. The Abanous Association will hold a ceremony as well. Sudanese and Egyptian artists as well as Nubian heritage bands will perform. The ceremonies will have hand made crafts and exhibitions, and both Sudanese and Egyptian food and drinks will be served. The Abanous Association intends to showcase social and cultural peace through acceptance of differences. The Association will host several workshops for children of different nationalities, as well as multicultural performances, music and theatre.
