Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Salah Farag announced Sudan's decision to provide all funds to cultivate an agricultural area measuring 10,000 acres – an increase from the original size of 250 acres. Sudan will cultivate the land with Egypt's participation as technical and human resource experts. “We will grow wheat in the first stage, which will begin in the next agriculture season,” said Farag in a press statement. “At the completion of the first stage, we will grow 165,000 acres in the second stage; these acres will be available for cultivation in two years,” the minister added. The Al-Genad and Halfa plants will now produce 6500 and 7500 daily tons daily respectively, according to an agreement with the Sudanese government and the Ministry of Agriculture. Two sugar-producing sites, one in Al-Hadaf and one in Al-Jazeera, with 45,000 and 25,000 acres, respectively, are ready for immediate investment.
