Govt, private sector to cultivate 1.5 million acres of Sudanese land

The Agriculture Ministry has announced plans to inject more funds into the Egyptian-Sudanese Joint Company to go towards the cultivation of the 500,000-acre Al-Gezira agricultural project in Sudan.
Egyptian private-sector companies, meanwhile, hope to cultivate an additional one million acres of Sudanese land.
“The Al-Gezira project sits on fertile land, which will produce a good yield,” said Saad Nassar, adviser to the agriculture minister. “It will help offset shortages of grain, oil and fodder.”
At a conference devoted to agricultural development on Wednesday, Nassar said that private-sector investment in Sudan would focus on the cultivation of sugar beet and yellow corn.
