CAIRO: The much-anticipated trials of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his sons, fugitive Hussein Salem, former Minister of interior Habib al-Adly – along with his six main assistants – are not being handled well, said Essam el-Bettawy, Habib al-Adly's attorney. El-Bettawy will ask for an early look at the Mubarak case, as it is nearly 10,000 pages in length and cannot be reviewed in 24 hours. Several members of the Egyptian national security body will be summoned to trial, according the El-Bettawy. The group includes the former Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Communication, Defense and Interior as well as former Vice President Omar Suleiman, former chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service. Mubarak will not be held accountable for the killing of protestors during the January 25 Revolution, as he did not order anyone to fire on the demonstrators, El-Bettawy said. Therefore, he added, it is impossible that al-Adly ordered the police to open fire, as he never received an order from the Cabinet or the former President. “If police officers shot protestors, it was in self-defense,” El-Bettawy said. Evidence will also be presented proving that several people falsified death certificates in order to get compensation as families of martyrs, El Bettawy said.
