AMMAN, Jordan: Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Khaled Tokan, said Egypt will provide Jordan with natural gas despite the latest explosions on the gas pipeline in Arish, Egypt. Tokan said Jordan's power sector will hold projects in order to face power challenge and the high cost of fuel. Providing Jordan with Egyptian gas will not stop. The Egyptian-Jordanian natural gas agreement of 2004 stated Egypt must supply Jordon with 240 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. This amount covers 80 percent of Jordon needs. The rest 20 percent is produced by heavy fuel. This agreement will last for 15 years. Stopping the gas glow of Egyptian gas and transferring production power by heavy fuel and diesel cost Jordan's public treasury in great loss. The cost of electricity generating is estimated at U.S. $5 million daily.
