Medical hazardous waste increased to 150 tons daily, while there are now 265 burners around Egypt, said the assistant to the Minister of Environment, Tarik Eid. He said the Ministry of Environment established an organization to manage medical hazardous waste by adopting a new strategy to deal with the burners and medical waste safely. Eid denied there is an international tendency to cancel burners and pointed out there was a proposal to cancel burners five years ago. He said the entire world depends on burners to get rid of the wastes and the ministry is working to establish medical burners. He determined a number of specifications to provide burners to produce in the next stage to cope with the international specifications. He said the burners should be located far from populating areas, stressing the intention to cancel medical burners in hospitals. Eid said the Ministry of Environment coordinates with the Ministry of Health to train all hospital employees about the new system and to establish a center for maintenance to ensure keeping and protecting the system. He demanded supervision over the hospitals to make sure every hospital commits to the new system and throw its wastes in the garbage.
