Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, the new chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission said commission will continue for the experimental operations at Inshas' second nuclear reactor. In a statement to Youm7, Ezzat denied that the reactor will officially be operated after tomorrow. He emphasized that experimental operations will continue until we check all the parts of the reactor, including its nuclear fuel cycle and the cooling towers, in the presence of a delegation from the Argentine company which operates the reactor. The new radioactive isotope factory, built with 70 million pounds financed by the Ministry of Finance, produces different types of radioactive isotopes that can be used to cure diseases like tumors. It will also produce Iodine 125 and 131, as well as Chromium 51 and another radioactive isotopes that can be used for medical and industrial purposes. The commission is expected to finish experimental operations in a few days and begin to produce the radioactive isotopes and export them to the other countries.
