Weekly performances by a variety of folk music troupes are held at el-Mastaba Center for Egyptian Folk Music in Abdeen every Thursday. The center aims to support the idea of reviving Egyptian folk heritage through music and singing which reflect the Egyptian spirit. The members of El Tanboura, one of several folk troupes that perform at the center, participated in Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Other troupes like Waziri and Hena participated with the people of Port Said during Sham el Nessim, an Egyptian holiday welcoming the coming of spring and the first holiday after the revoluion. The folk troupes will perform several concerts in the coming weeks. The new program includes performances by troupes from governorates across Egypt, including Dakahlia, Manzala, the Suez Canal zone, Nubia, and Upper Egypt. The schedule for May is as follows: Thurs. May 5: Baramkeh Troupe Thurs. May 12: Waziri Troupe Thurs. May 19: Nubia Lights Troupe Thurs. May 26: Nile Psalms Toupe All concerts are performed in El Tanboura Hall at 8:30pm.
