Mohamed Abou-Treika has accepted Ahli's disciplinary action against him as he apologized for the ‘severe embarrassment' he might have caused in the wake of the Super Cup saga. The midfield icon was banned for two months and fined EGP 500,000 by his club for refusing to take part in the game against ENPPI, in support of the many fans who demanded ‘justice before football' regarding the Port-Said disaster victims. His decision caused widespread debates between fans and pundits, with some supporters -mainly ultras - praising him while blasting Ahli's board and players alike. However, the legendary Abou-Treika was quick to clear the air and call for calm following the Reds' announcement of his sanctions. Proud “I fully respect the management's decisions and I received the news in a sensible manner when they informed me," Abou-Treika told Ahli's website. “I am aware of the principles and values of Ahli and I am proud to belong to this club. “My decision was made for a good cause even though it was misunderstood by some. “That's why I apologize for the severe embarrassment I might have caused to the club's board and I also apologize for putting my teammates under pressure. “I hope we all forget this case and focus on supporting Ahli in the meantime because the club's benefit remains the utmost objective for us all." Abou-Treika is certain to miss Ahli's next game against Cairo rivals Zamalek in the final Champions League group game this month, but could return to action for the semis.
