Fencer Alaa El-Din El-Sayed Aboualkassem has secured the first medal for Egypt in the London Olympics after reaching the men's individual foil final. Aboualkassem, 21, enjoyed a stunning day in London before losing marginally to China's Sheng Lei in the final to win silver. He recorded three straight victories to march his way into the last four, where he beat Byungchul Choi of South Korea. The Egyptian fencing prodigy managed to beat USA's Chamley-Watson, Germany's Peter Joppich and Italy's Andrea Cassara - a former world champion - before as well. Aboualkassem, who was injured for most of his thrilling 15-13 final defeat, became the first-ever African Olympic medalist in fencing.
