Zamalek have announced the departure of manager Hassan Shehata. The Cairo club said on their website that Shehata had 'orally stepped down' during a meeting with chairman Mamdouh Abbas and failed to show up at the team's last training. “Zamalek would like to thank Hassan Shehata for the spell he had with the club and his contribution in general," a club statement read. Shehata's exit has been on the cards for some time as the Whites have been struggling with internal problems as well as poor results of late.
Yehia tipped for Zamalek job The former Egypt coach almost left after his rift with team star Shikabala; a saga that was followed by two Champions League defeats this month. He has been in charge since July 2011, guiding his old club to Egypt Cup final last season. It is believed that MCDR coach Tarek Yehia - a former 80s star - is a major candidate to land the job. The highly-rated Yehia was also tipped to succeed Shehata as Egypt manager before American Bob Bradley had been appointed. He had a spell as assistant manager with the Cairo giants four years ago.
