Zamalek have announced their decision to hold on to Hassan Shehata, a few days after accepting his resignation as manager. The twist came following the intervention of chairman Mamdouh Abbas, who was outside Egypt when the initial decision was made. “We had a meeting today and several decisions were made. The most important thing is that Hassan Shehata's resignation is rejected,” Abbas told FilGoal.com on Saturday. “Disciplinary action will be taken against Shikabala as well.” Shehata issued an ultimatum to Zamalek after club officials seemed hesitant to take action against midfielder Shikabala, who was at the center of an infamous rift with his manager. The Master eventually decided to step down, causing a major conflict inside the Zamalek board, with some members agreeing to terminate his contract while other refused. Shehata also made a significant request regarding his squad list for next season, asking to axe high-profile striker Mido, who has been released a few days after the coach's exit. It remains to be seen how Shehata will react as Zamalek's next competitive game takes place in July when they visit Ghana's Chelsea in the Champions League.
