Zamalek have announced that coach Hassan Shehata's resignation has been accepted by the board. Shehata's shock decision came in the wake of his rift with star midfielder Shikabala, who furiously reacted to being substituted in the team's last game against Maghreb Fes. It is believed that Shehata insisted on axing the Egypt international who is tied with Zamalek until the summer of 2014. The former Egypt coach was also reluctant to keep striker Mido with the team for next season. Even though the club said earlier that club officials were trying to talk the veteran coach out of his decision, the Zamalek board has shown no willingness to accept his demands. Shehata - a Zamalek legend - has just guided the team to the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time since 2008. The 62-year-old took the helm at Zamalek in July 2011, following the sacking of Hossam Hassan.
