Zamalek striker Ahmed Gaafar will be the team's deputy goalkeeper in the upcoming Champions League game with Maghreb Fes despite scoring the winner in a friendly against Wadi Degla. The Whites are facing a possible ordeal as the suspension of skipper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed left Mahmoud Abdul-Rahim ‘Gennesh' as the only available keeper in the African roster. Hassan Shehata and Co. has been testing some candidates for the reserve keeper role, including star striker Amr Zaki and his partner Gaafar. “The management made a final decision that Gaafar will be the stand-in goalkeeper against Fes,” assistant coach Ismail Youssef told the club's website. “He played for about 20 minutes in goal in the Degla game to get used to the new position.” Zamalek edged Degla 3-2 on Monday as – ironically – Gaafar came off the bench to score the winning goal before replacing Abdul-Wahed in goal. Amr Zaki and Ahmed Hassan also scored in the narrow win, which is part of the team's preparations for the Fes visit. Meanwhile, defenders Omar Gaber and Hani Saied were both injured in the game to become doubtful for Sunday's clash.
