Sunderland winger Ahmed Elmohamady revealed that he has been allowed to feature for Egypt against DR Congo on Friday even though the friendly fixture is not included in FIFA's international agenda. The 25-year-old, who has been confined to the bench since Martin O'Neil took the helm back in December, played in Egypt's 1-0 victory over Niger as the team conclude their training camp in Doha with another friendly at the weekend. As Sunderland take on Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday, it seems that the Egypt wing-back is still out of favor for O'Neill. “Even though the DR Congo game is not officially announced by FIFA, coach O'Neil told me I can stay with the team when I asked him,” Elmohamady said after the Niger win. “He wants to retain his starting line-up, so I still have to wait for my chance. Egypt assistant coach Diaa Al-Sayed conceded that Sunderland have stressed that Elmohamady should play no more than 45 minutes. Egypt were initially supposed to face Uganda as announced by the FA, but are now set to take on a much tougher opponent in DR Congo.
