Former Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour has relinquished the appeal he won against the legitimacy of the club's ex-board led by Mamdouh Abbas as the latter looks close to regaining his post. Mansour, a renowned attorney, ran for the club's 2009 presidential elections against bitter foe Abbas, who eventually claimed the prestigious seat. The controversial lawyer, however, successfully appealed against the validity of the elections claiming then that votes were rigged and resulting in the sacking of Abbas' board. Galal Ibrahim was appointed interim chairman by the Supreme Council of Sports pending new board elections as Abbas made an appeal to regain his post. Subsequently, a reconciliation is believed to have been brought about between both sides during the past few days, prompting Mansour to give up his case before the court of law. Now Abbas - a wealthy businessman - is tipped to be reinstated as Zamalek chairman and is expected to pump cash into the crisis-hit club who have been suffering a financial predicament for quite a while. The Whites' recent turmoil triggered some of the first team players, including star striker Amr Zaki, to file complaints against the club over late dues.
