Ahli forward Al-Sayed Hamdi was forced to pull out of the team's trip to Wydad Casablanca as Mohamed Fadl steps in. Fadl was initially dropped from Manuel Jose's 19-man roster for the Champions League clash, but Egypt striker Hamdi caught flu on Thursday and will miss the game. Ahli already miss injured trio Mohamed Barakat, Ahmed Al-Sayed and Fabio Junior, in addition to suspended skipper Hossam Ghaly. The Egyptian champions need a win against the Moroccans in order to improve their position in Group B, with Esperance likely to overcome bottom club MC Alger in Tunis. “We need to play for a win. If we targeted a draw, we'll lose and get out of the competition as I expect Esperance to beat Alger,” Jose told reporters ahead of the Casablanca trip. Ahli trail joint-leaders Wydad and Esperance by one point, with two games remaining for each team.
