The Cairo derby between Ahli and Zamalek is set to be played on Wednesday night after the Ministry of Interior backtracked on the decision to delay it, according to local Egyptian TV. FA chairman Samir Zaher said on Wednesday morning that the eagerly-anticipated clash will be postponed in the wake of the events that took place in Tahrir Square on Tuesday night. Consequently, Ahli announced on their official website that the first team will rest on Wednesday until the FA inform them with the new date of the fixture. However, the Ministry of Interior backed down on the decision ‘in respect to the fans and in order to keep the reputation of Egyptian sport intact and the nation's image preserved'. An official statement has yet to be made by the Egyptian FA.
