Ahli's out-of-favor playmaker Amir Sayoud has been called up to Algeria's Olympic team squad despite lack of playing time with the Cairo giants. The 19-year-old has been included in a 27-man squad selected by Algeria's Olympic team manager, the country's football federation said on Wednesday. Ahli coach Hossam Al-Badri said few months ago that Sayoud, who showed glimpses of his talent during pre-season friendlies, was a promising player who would be part of the team's plans in the next few seasons. However, the unfortunate incidents which followed Algeria's 1-0 victory over Egypt in a World Cup qualifying playoff last month prompted him to consider leaving Ahli. The club also said it would be difficult for Sayoud to stay put due to the current problems between Egypt and Algeria. Belgian second-division side Lierse SK, who are owned by Egyptian businessman Maged Sami, tabled an offer to sign Sayoud when the transfer window reopens in January.
