Portuguese coach Nelo Vingada tops Zamalek's wish-list for their managerial seat, a club board member said on Friday. "We are just awaiting his reply, which is due on Saturday," the board member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FilGoal.com. Zamalek are likely to announce the sacking of current coach Michel Decastel on Saturday after a disappointing start to the season, FilGoal.com has learnt. The Cairo giants kicked off their Egyptian Premier League campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over ENPPI, but then lost 2-1 to Petrojet and needed a second-half comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw at Arab Contractors. French coach Henri Michel, who was widely criticized for his acrimonious Zamalek exit in the summer of 2007, is also one of the favorites to take over at the team. Vingada, under whom Zamalek won their last league title in 2004, is the frontrunner to be named their new boss though.
Sudden departure from Ahli Ahli Exit The 56-year-old is currently in charge of Portuguese side Vitoria S.C after leaving Zamalek's arch-rivals Ahli in a surprising manner before the start of the season. He signed a two-year contract with the Egyptian champions but said few days later that he had to depart the club for family reasons. "To take over Ahli, I would have to be sharp all the time," Vingada said in June. "I need to move to Portugal in to stand by my family, and I hope I can terminate the agreement we reached without troubles. I apologize for my decision, but I had no choice." Vingada also had a spell with Egypt's Olympic team in 2006.
