Wigan Athletic chief executive Brenda Spencer stated that Amr Zaki still has an opportunity to earn a permanent deal at the JJB Stadium, after he had sort things out with Steve Bruce. The Egypt ace faced a baptism of fire when he failed to report back from international duty on time after the Pharaohs' 1-1 draw with Zambia in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers final phase last month. However, Zaki sat down with his boss Bruce and apologized for his late arrival, and the latter seems to be ready to give the 26-year-old a second chance, after he had cast doubt on his future with the Latics. "This whole affair has been very disappointing and the club are keen to draw a line under it," Spencer, who attended the clear-the-air meeting, said. "Steve has told him that the door is not closed but he has a lot to do to earn a place back in the team. That is before we discuss anything more long term." Zaki admitted that his attitude was inappropriate, assuring he would accept any punishment from the club. "He said the reason for his behavior was personal but he understands he has done wrong and will accept his punishment," she added. "He also wants to apologize to the supporters who have been so good to him since his arrival in England."
