Mido's plans to move away from Middlesbrough could be dashed after club chairman Steve Gibson reiterated that his side will keep hold of their current players. The Egyptian hitman is eager to depart the Riverside this winter, after failing to secure a regular spot over the past two seasons. "I repeat: none of our senior players will be leaving the club this month," the Boro president told The Times on Monday. "We've got a talented group of players and it's time for us to knuckle down and focus on the job in hand. "As far as we're concerned, this is now an end to the matter." Gibson's comments are also intended to respond to the ongoing speculation around Stewart Downing's future, as the latter is targeted by Tottenham. Lack of Appearances Manager Gareth Southgate usually tends to field duo Afonso Alves and Sanli Tuncay upfront, and thus Mido's first-team appearances were kept to the minimum. The 25-year-old's brother Tamer Hossam Wasfi told FilGoal.com on Sunday that the international striker is going to leave Boro in the immediate future. "Mido is on the verge of leaving Middlesbrough because he wants to play regularly," he said. "He was approached by some mid-table clubs in England, but is still considering his options regarding the next move."
