The Swiss Football Association said on Tuesday that Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will take over as Switzerland coach after Euro 2008. A statement posted on the Swiss FA website revealed that the German tactician signed a two-year contract starting from July 1st. His primary target is to qualify Switzerland to the World Cup 2010. The Swiss side will have to battle with Greece, Israel, Moldova, Latvia and Luxembourg in group B of the European qualifiers. Switzerland are co-host of the Euro 2008 and had a relatively easy draw as they will face Portugal, Czech Republic and Turkey. Hitzfeld, 59, has already announced that he will step down from Bayern job at the end of the season. Former Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann will replace him.
