Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abdul-Monsef is set to fly to Rome on Wednesday to undergo a one-week trial period with Serie A side Lazio. Abdul-Monsef had received an invitation from Lazio last month to undergo technical and medical tests and the Egyptian international took advantage of the stoppage period in the local calendar to travel to Italy. “I got the offer through former Ismaili board member and ART analyst Khaled Bayoumi who lives in Italy, and also former Egypt manager Marco Tardelli's translator who put in a good word for me,” Abdul-Monsef told FilGoal.com in a phone interview. “Zamalek are prepared to release me if Lazio do make an offer that is deemed financially substantial,” he added.
Bayoumi helped Abdul-Monsef get the trial period at Lazio The 30-year-old guardian said there is a possibility he could undergo another trial period with top-flight side Sampdoria while in Italy. Abdul-Monsef revealed that Tardelli contacted Sampa boss Walter Novellino regarding the matter. The former Dina Farms keeper has fallen out of favor at Zamalek following the return of first-choice Abdul-Wahed El Sayed to action last December after a long layoff period through injury. Lazio are looking to add to their goalkeeping options as Angelo Peruzzi, 37, Marco Ballotta, 43, and Matteo Sereni, 33, are all getting older. Dellio Rossi's team are currently in 3rd place in the Serie A table on 49 points and are pushing for a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
