Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has claimed William Gallas has disrespected him and his teammates by failing to report to pre-season training. "It's not only me that is upset - we're all upset," Mourinho told Sky Sports News on Thursday. "Everybody is upset because we had a strong family and a strong group and this has shown a lack of respect to everybody and I don't like that." The 28-year-old defender didn't arrive in Los Angeles for Chelsea's pre-season training camp on Monday. The Premiership champions released an official statement condemning his behavior, and announcing he will not join the team for pre-season training. "He did not report and further action will now be considered by the club as a consequence," read a Chelsea statement on Tuesday. "Gallas was due to join the team with the other Chelsea players who participated in the World Cup semi-finals and final."
Mourinho is unhappy with Gallas Gallas' absence prompted Mourinho to hand new-signing Michael Ballack the Frenchman's number 13 jersey during his presentation earlier this week. Ballack said he was surprised to be presented with his favorite number. "Initially I wanted the 13 shirt and I was sad because it had already been taken," the Germany captain said. "I had accepted the number 19 shirt. But two days ago the coach came and said 'okay, it's fine for you to have the 13'. There was no particular reason behind the decision." Gallas, who has been with Chelsea for five years, has a year remaining on his contract and had asked the club in May to release him, rather than sign a new contract. Still, Chelsea seem unwilling to let the French international leave, and Gallas may find himself sitting on the sidelines for the entire season. "Discussions between Chelsea and William about a new contract are already well documented and ongoing. He has one year left on his current contract," the statement added.
