Real Madrid chairman Ramon Calderon pledged on Wednesday to officially unveil four new-signings next week. The Spanish giants were on the brink of signing Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from Manchester United who rejected a bid of $18.3 million on Wednesday. "I want to assure the fans that four new players will be introduced by next week," Spanish paper Marca quoted Calderon as saying. "Hopefully, Nistelrooy will be among them. He wants to join Real Madrid but Manchester are pushing to get the maximum benefit out of the deal."
Nistelrooy Real Madrid are also chasing several Italy-based players whom their clubs were penalized in the aftermath of the match-fixing scandal in Italy. Coach Fabio Capello, who took over earlier this month after resigning from Juventus, wants to bring in Italian internationals and Juventus defenders Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta. The Italian boss also expressed interest in signing Serie A top scorer Luca Toni from Fiorentina and a delegation from Real Madrid is believed to be finalizing the deal in Italy. Calderon hasn't ruled out signing one of Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, Milan's Kaka or Chelsea's Arjen Robben. During his campaign for Real Presidency, he promised to land the trio although Capello said he is keen only on Brazil playmaker Kaka.
