Real Madrid have signed Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro and Brazilian midfielder Emerson from relegated Italian side Juventus, the Spanish club said on Wednesday. "We are delighted to announce that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Cannavaro and Emerson," read a statement carried by the club's website. "Both players will be introduced at the Santiago Bernabeu in the next few days." Although the Spanish club didn't provide any financial details, leading sports newspaper Marca estimated the deal at 20 million euros ($24.99 million) for both players. The duo are the first of several players set to leave Juventus who were demoted to Serie B due to their role in the match-fixing scandal that rocked Italian football recently.
Emerson Cannavaro and Emerson will be playing under former Juventus coach Fabio Capello who took over as Real manager after the World Cup. The Italian boss was the one who signed them for Juve from Inter Milan and Roma respectively. Cannavaro, 33, played a key role in Italy's campaign towards the World Cup title in Germany this summer while 30-year-old Emerson was a starter for Brazil and Juventus over the past years. Real Madrid chairman Ramon Calderon said that he will announce more new-signings by next week. Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Milan playmaker Kaka are also linked with a move to the Royal Club.
