Dutch forward Dennis Bergkamp has questioned coach Arsene Wenger's decision to sell midfielder Patrick Vieira without finding a suitable replacement. "You respect Arsene for what he has done, that is for sure. But to tell the truth you thought something would happen - and nothing did," Bergkamp told The Times on Sunday. Arsenal have been in lackluster form ever since the sale of skipper Vieira to Juventus over the summer and Wenger is yet to find a suitable replacement for the France international. "You can't just let Patrick go without having someone coming in," the Dutchman said.
Vieira in Juve's colors "Arsene is intelligent enough to know what that did to the team [in selling Vieira]. People saw how influential Patrick was on the pitch, dominating midfield by himself," he added. The 36-year-old Bergkamp admitted he did not expect Arsenal to suffer without their former skipper. "We didn't expect the dip to be this big. It is okay to take one step and two steps forward, but we are not really sure if it just one step back at the moment," the former Dutch international said. Arsenal are in fifth place in the Premiership table with 40 points, 22 behind runaway leaders Chelsea who seem on course for their second consecutive title.
