Egypt's retired star Mohamed Abou-Treika has been CAF Player of the Year 2013 (based in Africa) for the fourth time. The African football governing body announced its annual awards at the Glo-CAF awards gala in Lagos, Nigeria, handing Treika his unprecedented award. Abou-Treika beat off competition from former teammate Ahmed Fathi and Nigerian Sunday Mba after he had been eliminated from the race for the African Player of the Year award. The major gong remained for the third year in a row in the hands of Ivory Coast and Manchester City ace Yaya Toure. Ahli best club Champions League winners Ahli claimed the Club of the Year award, whereas African champions Nigeria were named national team of the year. Egypt youngster Saleh Gomaa missed out on the Most Promising Talent of 2013 award, which went to Nigerian teenager Kelechi Iheanacho. In the Team of the Year line-up, Egypt duo Abou-Treika and Fathi were the only two players based in Africa.
