Mohamed Abou-Treika was included in CAF's top 10 list of nominees for the 2013 African Player of the Year award. The Egypt and Ahli star kept his place as CAF cut their initial 25-man list for the top gong to 10, which excluded Basel star Mohamed Salah. Although he is considered a longshot, Abou-Treika will vie for the award with the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba. The other nominees are quartet Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama, John Obi Mikel and Emmanuel Emenike from African champions Nigeria, Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jonathan Pitroipa of Burkina Faso. Veteran Abou-Treika, who is poised to retire in a few weeks, also kept his place in CAF's list of Africa-based Player of the Year, along with club and country mate Ahmed Fathi.
Gomaa was the Player of the Tournament in U-20 CAN Treika and Fathi compete with Mazembe duo Rainford Kalaba and Tresor Mputu and Sunday Mba of Warri Wolves for the prize. Ahli and Gomaa nominated Another Egyptian in CAF''s shortlists is ENPPI youngster Saleh Gomaa, who is among three other nominees for the Most Promising Talent of the Year award. The list includes Ghana sensation Ebenezer Assifuah, Nigeria teenager Kelechi Iheanacho and Champions League top scorer Alexis Yougouda of Coton Sport. Finally, Champions League winners Ahli will vie for the Club of the Year award along with runners-up Orlando Pirates and Confederation Cup champions Sfaxien.
