Egypt pair Mohamed Abou-Treika and Mohamed Salah have been nominated for CAF's Player of the Year award for 2013. The duo made a list of 25 players vying for the best African player gong for 2013, including the likes of Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan. Ahli star Abou-Treika has been instrumental in his club's Champions League victory this term, while Basel's Salah is the African World Cup qualifying top scorer. Abou-Treika, who will retire by the end of next month, was named Africa-based Player of 2012 last year for the third time. On the other hand, Salah was voted Africa's Most Promising Talent last year. Ahli trio in local-based list Meanwhile, CAF also announced a shortlist of 21 players for the Africa-based Player of the Year award, led by Egypt star Abou-Treika.
