“What direction is Egypt taking?" This question is on the tongue of Egyptians from all strata of society. After the January 25 Revolution, the entire population hoped for a better future and the realisation of the revolution's demands – freedom, dignity and social justice. But nothing has been achieved; everybody is competing for the best place in the sun to the detriment of everybody else. Day after day the dream becomes more remote, and some people try hard to ruin the country. On the other hand, there are those who contribute with positive action to Egypt's recovery and development. But the economy is still in dire straits. Investors came back a while ago but are leaving again. Unemployment and crime are on the rise, drug dealing and consumption are spreading, and the security forces are not able to cope. Neglect, negligence and indifference have turned into a constant problem. The Government doesn't meet the people's needs, production is in decline and life is about to grind to a halt. Salaries cannot be raised until production is back on track. There has been a fundamental shift in behaviour; employees don't anymore perceive their superiors as unquestionable authority figures but express their own opinions and views quite openly. Even the Sphinx at the foot of the Giza pyramids asks what direction Egypt is moving to and where the wise people are. God help us! Young children were killed in a tragic accident due to negligence, the minister in question resigned, but nothing has improved. May God protect the families of the victims. Egypt's sons need to go to work, build their country, be one hand and help the January 25 Revolution succeed, instead of wasting their time. We shall keep on asking what direction Egypt is taking until our country recovers and develops to the same level as Western countries. [email protected] [email protected]
