CAIRO - Sixty years have passed since the July 23, 1952 Revolution under the leadership of Gamal Abdel Nasser, who paid much attention to the poor and needy. The 1952 Revolution is considered an important turning point in Egypt's history. Then came the January 25 Revolution in 2011 to complete the goals and purposes of the previous one. Among its advocated visions and ideas are social justice, freedom of expression and widening the scope of democracy. The recent revolution had no leader, which could be seen as an advantage; but at the same time it lacked a patron to protect it from moving in the wrong direction and getting hijacked. Neverthess, it had the fascinating merit that the entire population was involved, keen to eradicate corruption and despotism and stop anybody from creating another autocratic regime.
