CAIRO - Egypt's doctors will demonstrate in the iconic Al Tahrir Square next Friday in their white coats, demanding the Ministry of Health's share of the State budget be increased from 3.5 per cent to 15 per cent. They will also demand the sacking of Health Minister Ashraf Hatem and other ‘corrupt officials' in the Ministry and affiliated directorates nationwide. Protecting hospitals from thugs will be another big demand, according to a statement from the higher committee for supervising the doctors' strike, made Saturday. The statement urged doctors, medics, civil society and political powers to take part in a ‘million man march' in the Square to support the doctors' demands to “promote the medical services offered to citizens”. The statement also condemned the fact that five doctors will be tried in court for taking part in two similar previous strikes on May 10 and 17.
