CAIRO - Egypt's doctors on Wednesday said they would suspend their strike, which started on Tuesday after the interim government promised to meet their demands. Rashwan Shabaan, a cardiologist and co-ordinator of the Higher Committee for Doctors' Strike, said that the decision was made after a meeting with with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and Finance Minister Samir Radwan. The Prime Minister decided to raise the Health Ministry's share of the State budget to 11 per cent, Shabaan said. “In addition, more security will be provided for hospitals through a strategy involving the Interior Ministry and the Army.” Doctors in many Egyptian cities went on strike on Tuesday, seeking pay rises, increasing the Health Ministry budget and more protection for hospitals, among other demands.. ? Medical services were affected in hospitals nationwide; but emergency rooms staff, however, were excluded from the strike and attended to patients.?
