CAIRO – Talaat el-Sadat, the new chairman of the "New National Party" and the nephew of the ex-president of Egypt Anwar el-Sadat, called on all political tends parties and fronts to support Moustafa el-Fiqqi to run for the Arab League secretary-general, following his compatriot Amr Moussa after finishing his second term, Al-Youm Al-Sabe reported. Egypt has nominated el-Fiqqi earlier as he has a charismatic and familiar with Arab issues. Sadat has said the choice of el-Fiqqi to replace Moussa helps stabilise the external positions in the Arab world. Talaat el-Sadat pledged to 'purge the party of all members who led to the corruption of national politics. He also called on leaders of the revolutionary protest movements which led to Mubarak's resignation in February to join the new party. el-Sadat is known for his outspoken criticism of Mubarak's government.
