CAIRO, Sept 28, 2018 (SEE) - Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit met on Friday with Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Thomas Grimminger on the sidelines of the 73rd meetings of the UN General assembly. The meeting discussed Abul Gheit's coming visit to the premises of the OSCE in Vienna to partake in the second workshop on exchanging expertise between the AL and the European bloc, spokesman of the AL secretary-general Mahmoud Afifi said. The workshop is set to tackle combating terrorism, trans-border crimes, issues related to immigration and mediation efforts to end conflicts, Afifi added. Abul Gheit stressed the importance of holding a serious dialogue between the two organizations within the next period in light of the common challenges. Meanwhile, Grimminger showed his interest in holding such dialogue to cover the political, security, economic, trade, and energy security domains, adding these topics are intrinsically linked in achieving comprehensive stability. The European official said he is looking forward to Abul Gheit's participation in the annual OSCE Mediterranean Conference, to be held in Malaga, Spain from 25 to 26 October 2018, under the rubric "The importance of energy for economic growth and co-operation in the Mediterranean."
