CAIRO, March 6, 2018 - Egypt's parliament (House of Deputies) on Tuesday approved a draft law for toughening penalties against persons who possess explosives or explosive materials without permission from the government . Article 1 of the law stipulates that whoever found guilty of possessing, importing, or manufacturing explosive materials and uses them for committing an act of terrorism will be sentenced to death. It also says that any person who posseses or imports or manufactures explosives or explosive materials without a legal permission shall be sentenced to life. The parliament also approved the amending of a clause in the first article which imposes a prison term on relatives of the criminal who had known about his or her possession of such materials and did not report it to the authorities concerned.
