A delegation from the African Union's (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC), headed by Calixte Mbari, inspected, on Thursday, the temporary headquarters of the African Union Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (AUC-PCRD) in Cairo.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the African Organizations and GatheringsDepartment, said the delegation completed the operation procedures of the AUC-PCRD in preparation for the official opening.
Gendy stressed the great interest that Egypt attaches to the AUC-PCRD, especially since President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is taking the lead in the reconstruction and development file in the AU.
She added that the centre is concerned with one of the continent's most important issues, which is the post-conflict reconstruction and development strategy as a guarantor of sustainable peace and stability.
Gendy indicated that an integrated programme was prepared for the delegation, where they met Ambassador Hamdi Loza, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, who stressed Egypt's keenness to start the actual operation of the center and exercise its functions in African countries.
The delegation also held meetings with the various sectors concerned with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find out the priorities and strategies of the center's work during the coming period.
They also met with Ambassador Mohamed Khalil, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD), to discuss ways of cooperation between the Center and the Agency, as it was agreed to establish a legal framework for cooperation between the Agency and the African Union (AU).
The delegation also paid an inspection visit to the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they met with Ambassador Ahmed Abdel Latif, Director General of the Center, and discussed the many and varied opportunities for cooperation between the two centres in light of their joint work on the topics of reconstruction, post-conflict development and peacebuilding..
